Peptides: A Must For Anti-Ageing In Skincare But Do You Know Why?

by Moniruz Zaman on Oct 04 2019
‘Peptides’ are a superstar ingredient class celebrated widely in the beauty industry and the enthusiasm around them is getting stronger by the day. Dermatologists, aestheticians and chemist formulators all agree on their effectiveness to target the specific areas of ageing and the significant skin improvements evident after continued usage. Indeed, peptides are very intelligent ingredients that everyone wants to be using – and for good reason! Before we get into what peptides can actually do for the skin, it’s important to know what they are and exactly how they work. This kind of technical information can get quite complex, so let’s simplify it and make it super easy to understand why these youth-generating skin ‘cheerleaders’ are so fabulous! What are Peptides? Let’s go back to our high school biology class. Do you remember your teacher telling you about ‘Amino Acids’? They are the best place to start. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, and proteins are the fundamental building blocks that make up our body/skin. Think of peptides as ‘little proteins’ – they are essentially made of tiny particles of these amino acids (a protein is made of more than amino acids & peptides are made up of less than 50 amino acids). You still with us? Excellent. Just remember to think of them as proteins! Peptides are found and made naturally in the skin. But over time, it’s a great idea to introduce more and more to re-stimulate the skin’s natural repairing process. Science has been able to brilliantly bio-engineer peptides from plants and botanicals to replicate the body’s own peptide actions. There are a vast number of different peptides available and each one is unique and responsible for its own specific action.   How do peptides work? Peptides are best described as ‘chemical messengers’. They play a dynamic and important role in the body’s complex communication system allowing different parts of the skin to ‘talk’ to one another per se. Think of it like this: when applied topically, peptides allow the top layer of the skin (Epidermis) to talk to the lower layer of the skin (Dermis) to do certain things. The Dermal layer of the skin is the layer responsible for accommodating collagen and elastin that give our skin its structure and firmness. So, a peptide applies to the epidermis might signal your skin to boost its production of collagen or hyaluronic acid – the result being less visible lines and better skin hydration. As we now know, each peptide is responsible for its own area, so it would make sense that using more than one would give you more enhanced results, right? Well this would be right. The more the better.   What results do peptides deliver? You may be asking yourself if you should be using peptide-based skincare? If you are concerned with any of the following skin conditions, then it may be a fab idea: ✓ Fine lines and wrinkles✓ Loss of firmness and facial contour✓ Pigmentation and skin discolouration✓ Dehydration ✓ Dullness As mentioned earlier, there are specific peptides that work on specific areas of concern. The good news is that new innovative skincare technologies have come further as to now combine various peptide combinations into skincare formulas to address these multiple skin concerns at once.   What Origani products contain peptides? Another fantastic thing about peptides is that there are certain ones designed to work to relax facial muscles – almost immediately. How? They work to inhibit nerve signals on the skin. Origani Immortajell skincare is one such range that uses these types of peptides to give an instant smoothing and plumping effect to lines and wrinkles. Incredible huh?! It’s important to note that when looking for products that contain peptides, they work best in serums and concentrated treatments - products that penetrate the skin and stay on the skin (not wash off, etc.). So, to wrap up our discussion on peptides, these anti-ageing ‘cheerleaders’ for the skin really are the elite “designer” skincare game-changers to activate the youthful element to your complexion. Additionally, as with all other powerful skincare ingredients, pairing them with other skin ingredient heroes (antioxidants, sunscreen and humectants) is the way to yield unrivaled anti-ageing results. We hope you are as excited about peptides as we are. Explore Peptide-infused Origani products here! Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. The 5 Don’ts Of Treating Acne

by Moniruz Zaman on Sep 17 2019
The one thing we all agree on is that treating acne requires special care. In between all of the traditional wife’s-tales and crazy fads, to the now more current scientific findings of keeping your skin pimple-free, it can get all a little overwhelming. In our last blog, we gave you a list of clear ‘Do’s’ when treating acne – the positive things and habits to follow to get your skin blemish-free. Now, it’s time to define the just as important ‘Don’ts’! Now let me just say, I have broken just about every rule in the book of treating pimples. I have squeezed and picked, used hard-core scrubs, and even applied toothpaste to every spot on my face. I have done worse still, but I’ll leave it there. Looking back, they are obvious things I shouldn’t have done – things that made my face look one million times worse. Listed below are a 5 more absolute “Don’ts” that may not be as obvious, but practices and habits that we also must kick once and for all! DON’T WASH YOUR FACE TOO MUCH There is a strong belief that the more you clean your skin, the clearer your skin will be. Well nope! That’s the first myth we need to bust. One of the most important functions of the skin is to create and secrete oil (sebum) to nourish and protect itself. The Acid Mantle is a fine layer of water and sebum that sits on the skin’s surface acting as a vital barrier for skin health and overall balance. The pimple problem arises when there is an overproduction of sebum and subsequent blockages in the pores. Yet all skin needs a well-balanced amount of sebum on the skin to function effectively. This is where effective cleansing comes in. Excess washing, particularly with harsh cleansers, leads to dryness and irritation. You see, the skin is one smart organ: It is self-regulating and will do what it needs to do to protect itself. The more oil you strip, the more it will make. And the vicious cycle continues potentially causing more breakouts. Here’s a good gauge - If your skin feels very taut and tight after cleansing, you have either over cleansed or used a cleanser that is too harsh for your skin type. Stick to cleansing with a suitable cleanser x2 a day to allow your skin to stay balanced and only double cleanse using a very gentle cleanser if you are wearing heavy makeup. Oh, and make sure the water isn’t too hot because that can also unnecessarily dry out the skin. Origani Recommends: Dermassure Clear and Calm Toning Cleanser   DON’T SKIP USING A MOISTURISER Just as important as finding the right cleanser for your skin type, is choosing and using the right moisturiser. You may think that oily skin doesn’t need moisturising but that’s not the case. Oily skin still needs daily hydration, especially if you are using other products (such as oil refining serums and treatments) that minimise oil. As mentioned earlier, your skin needs the right type of moisture to adequately function (refer back to the purpose of the skin’s Acid Mantle). When you dry out your skin, the skin responds by producing more oil. A well-formulated moisturiser designed for your skin type will deliver what it needs to, keeping your skin balanced. Think hydration, not oil. Oil-free gels and lightweight lotions that also absorb oil (mattify) and contain natural anti-bacterial ingredients, work best. Remember, hydrated skin is healthy skin and is also one that will repair itself faster! Origani Recommends: Dermassure Clear and Calm Matte Comfort Moisturiser   DON’T KEEP CHANGING YOUR PRODUCTS ALL THE TIME Your skin renews itself frequently. In fact, the average cycle of cellular turnover is around 28-35 days. To get the best results of a skincare regime, its best to give it at least the length of a skin cycle to see improvements. Far too often, we give up because we are in a rush to see immediate benefits. And while your cleanser and moisturiser will work quite quickly to cleanse and hydrate the skin, serums and targeted treatments will take a little longer to regulate oil production, clean out the pores and deeply purify the skin. Additionally, we are often quick to jump ship if a new product feels a little different from the skincare that we are used to. A great example is when you switch to organic-based formulas. Organic skincare will always initially feel different on the skin as it is free from synthetics and fillers - you need to give your skin some time to get used to the ‘raw’ ingredients and its incredible benefits. Additionally, in terms of ‘active’ acne-based products, often a little temporary tingling sensation is normal. However, if your skin starts to redden or burn, then it’s time to reassess it suitability to you. So, in short, be consistent in your skincare regime and give it 4 to 6 weeks to start really making a difference and give your skin some time to get used to the marvels of organics!   DON’T STRESS UNNECESSARILY It’s a vicious cycle. You get a zit and you stress. You stress then you get a zit. Arghhh! Just like stress has been linked to premature ageing, current research also suggests a link between breakouts and stress.Everyday stress is highly unlikely to cause breakouts, but chronic ongoing stress can exacerbate acne-prone skin. Chronic stress increases levels of stress-related hormones such as cortisol and sends skin’s sebaceous (oil) glands into overdrive, which mixes with dead skin cells and breakout-causing bacteria. Stress has also been proven to affect the immune response of the body by weakening thus contributing to problem skin and its healing process. So, breath, relax and work to ease your tensions – your skin and body overall will be so much better for it.   DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE TOO MUCH It’s really hard not to touch your skin especially when a new pimple surfaces. Popping is so impulsive, but the truth is, it often results in one big mess! Also, constantly putting your hands to your face makes acne worse. Think of all the things that you touch on a daily basis and how much we touch our face – the chances of your hands being bacteria and dirt laden are pretty high! Transferring this onto your face is a NO-NO and we often simply do it without even realising it – If only we could clearly see bacteria and germs, then we would never do it! It’s not just your hands that carry bacteria to your face, think about your phone, make-up brushes and sponges and even your pillowcase. Be sure to regularly wash/sanitise your hands and wipe down your devices with anti-bacterial wipes. Follow these 5 “Don’ts” to treating Acne and addition to the 5 “Do’s” and you are on the way to clearer skin!   Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. The Causes And Risks of Acne

Acne: Understand The Science Behind The Causes And Risks

by Moniruz Zaman on Sep 05 2019
There is no doubt about it; Acne is one of the most undesirable skin conditions to experience. Unpleasant in appearance and often raw to the touch, it is something almost all of us deal with at some point in our lives. Firstly, though, it’s important to clear up the term “Acne.” Acne is an umbrella term used for various problem skin manifestations, or forms of ‘breakouts’ (listed further below). The extent of breakouts be it mild or severe, are often caused by similar triggers (usually from our own biological functions), so understanding these processes is necessary for effectively treating/preventing them. This article will take you through the ‘science’ behind how and why acne occurs in a clear and simple way - by the end of the read, you will be a pro at understanding your skin! THE 3 SKIN STRUCTURES RESPONSIBLE FOR ACNE: HAIR FOLLICLES: A tunnel-shaped structure of the skin whereby hair sprouts from. Each follicle is connected to a gland that produces oil that empties into it, moving up to the surface of the skin. SEBACEOUS GLANDS: Connected to hair follicles, these glands produce an oily substance called ‘sebum’ which lubricates the skin and hair. They are mostly found on the face, chest, back and scalp hence why pimples often occur in these areas. These glands are more active/inactive at different stages of life, in line with hormonal fluctuations (adolescence and menopause etc). PORES: These small openings in the skin allow hair, sebum and sweat to surface on the skin from their respective glands below. There are two types, sweat and oil pores, but the ones we deal with when treating acne are oil pores. These are the visible one’s (blocked or large pores) that we spend endless time trying to minimise and clear!   Here’s the thing: All skin structures actually have a very important job by way of delivering important oil, and hair to the skin’s surface for essential skin protection. The skin’s pores and natural oils help keep the skin supple, moisturized healthy and youthful. They are however attributed to pimples and enlarged pores and generally the ones we want to treat/minimise!   HOW DO PIMPLES ACTUALLY FORM? Acne occurs when the glands in the hair follicles produce too much sebum (oil). As a result of the excess sebum the pores of the skin become blocked, and dead skin cells and bacteria become trapped and form a ‘plug’ in the pores. As this builds up, bacteria in the pores trigger the body immune system causing inflammation response hance swelling, pain, redness and pus.   THE 5 BIG CAUSES/RISKS FOR ACNE Breakouts are often attributed to certain lifestyle choices, but almost always, the source of pimples come from innate inherited bodily processes. In saying this though, lifestyle choices can exacerbate and worsen such conditions, so it’s important to take both into account when treating problem skin. HORMONES: Hormonal fluctuations that occur in teen years, monthly menstrual cycles and menopause trigger unbalanced sebum production. SKIN TYPE: Heredity determines our innate skin type (for example the more active our sebaceous glands, the oilier our skin is likely causing more breakouts). SKIN HABITS: Improper care of the skin can cause breakouts: using oily make-up, poor cleansing and repeatedly rubbing skin can cause dirt, dust and oils to plug/aggravate the pores, allowing bacteria to spread. MEDICATIONS: The use of drugs like steroids and some oral contraceptives can cause acne. STRESS: Hormonal elevations can be attributed to excess stress-causing breakouts. Additionally, our immune system response is also compromised, making fighting infection less effective.   WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ACNE? Whiteheads: When a pore becomes clogged, closes up, and then bulges. They appear when the hair shaft fills with sebum and a pustule develops. Blackheads: When a pore becomes clogged, but stays open, the top darkens and a blackhead forms. Skin pigment mixes with sebum and plugs up the skin pores, appearing as a "black" spot on the skin. Congestion: Rough superficial red-less and painless bumps covering an area of the skin that has been clogged with hardened oil yet not infected. Pimples: When the walls of the pore become damaged, bacteria and dead skin to work their way under the live skin. This leaves you with a red small and often painful infection that doesn’t come to ahead. Cysts: A more severe type of acne whereby much deeper clogged pores under the skin become infected often causing large blemish marks and scarring.   WHEN ARE YOU MOST LIKELY TO DEVELOP ACNE? Although acne can come about at any age, adolescents are typically more likely to suffer. When puberty starts, the body starts to produce androgens. These "male" hormones are a natural part of development, maturing the body for the adult transition. They ramp up oil production and body hair growth leading to more potential for breakouts. This sebum production normally decreases in the early 20's but it can flare up again at any age (due to other hormonal changes).   THE GOOD NEWS? There is indeed a silver lining to going through those spotty years. Pimples often equate to oily skin and such skin types generally age very well! There will come a time when you will appreciate the oil you once had on your face! Secondly, acne is usually just a phase that clears up quite well with the right treatments and skincare habits. IMMORTAJELL INSTANT WRINKLE

Origani Immortajell Instant Wrinkle & Puffiness Remover: Why Do We Call It The 1 Minute Miracle?

by Beauty Advisor on Aug 16 2019
Our eyes reveal the most about us. In fact, the eyes often convey more than our actual words do. Those lines, especially around the eyes, convey a life lived with emotion, depth, and experience and there is something so beautiful and genuine about that. But as we know, the ageing signs are bitter-sweet: they can also make us look tired, drained and older than we actually are. For a part of us that is so powerful, it’s no surprise that the eyes are often one of the first places we want to target to look and feel our best. Two of the biggest skin indicators of advanced ageing are crow’s feet (lines on the side of the eyes) and under-eye puffiness. Youthful looking peepers can make all the difference in making us look fresher, more alert and even younger. And so, the Research and Development team at Origani committed themselves to sourcing the best cosmetic technology and ingredients to deliver a product that does exactly that – an instant wrinkle remover. And, we nailed it.   IMMORTAJELL INSTANT WRINKLE AND PUFFINESS REMOVER POINT OF DIFFERENCE: With its outstanding ability to rapidly plump your wrinkles from the inside out (yes even the deepest ones!) you no longer need to wait for visible results. Immortajell Instant Wrinkle and Puffiness Remover is designed to work as a topical ‘Botox’ alternative and/or support without the needle, pain and potential risks, while delivering rivalled results. In fact, while Botox takes about 1-2 weeks to fully peak, our Immortajell anti-wrinkle hero product takes only a minute. and while the eyes are a great place to target it with, it can be applied to all other wrinkles on the face. Results also last for approximately 6 hours. However, before we delve into how this innovative formula works, let’s learn about why wrinkles and puffiness happen in the first place.   HOW DO WRINKLES AND UNDER EYE PUFFINESS OCCUR: As we age, three things happen: 1. The skin cell renewal process slows down 2. Collagen and Elastin diminishes in supply 3. Facial muscles weaken and drop   This leads to thinning, dryness and sagginess leaving the skin more fragile, lined and weaker. Let’s look at facial muscles. All 43 of them become weaker, contributing to an aged appearance. They are weakened by facial expressions: repeated muscle contractions happen when we are thinking, frowning, and smiling, and over time, lead to permanent visible wrinkles. As the muscles gradually lose tone and ‘drop,’ the skin also crinkles around them. It is then essentially more difficult for the skin to recover and spring back into shape.   HOW DOES IMMORTAJELL INSTANT WRINKLE AND PUFFINESS REMOVER ACTUALLY WORK? Encased in a unique precision syringe for targeted application, is an extraordinary muscle relaxing, smoothing and skin plumping complex that IMMEDIATELY works to treat facial expression lines and under-eye puffiness. The 4 masterful key ingredients include: Peptides: Amino acids that temporarily inhibit muscle movement, reducing expression wrinkles formation and depth. They are the most powerful anti-wrinkle fighters. Sericin/Hydrolysed Silk: Hydrolysed Silk that softens skin for a silkier and smoother texture reducing the appearance of wrinkles and puffiness. Hyaluronic acid: An anti-wrinkle humectant molecule that plumps and hydrates the skin to fill our dry lines. AHA’s: A fruit acid blend that exfoliates and resurfaces to brighten and renew the skin.   RESULTS OF THE IMMORTAJELL INSTANT WRINKLE REMOVER: Immediate results: ✓ Expression lines remarkably fade away in seconds✓ Facial contours are lifted and tightened✓ Under-eye puffiness is diminished in appearance✓ Skin will be plumped and lifted with an ‘air-brushed’ finish and silky texture   Long term results: Superfood ACAI FRUIT EXTRACT is a great anti-ageing ingredient that works to repair and prevent future damage as it contains more antioxidants than any other known fruit on the planet!   So, to wrap up, I leave you with a message from Atticus. “The prettiest eyes sparkle from the inside out.” And yet there are also times when life takes it out of us, and it shows. There are also those times where we simply desire to look our very best for momentous occasions. IMMORTAJELL INSTANT WRINKLE AND PUFFINESS REMOVER is a must for such times. It truly is modern anti-ageing innovative cosmetic technology at its best.   And remember, your eyes are your most mesmerising asset, so be sure to take care of them as well with a good daily anti-ageing eye cream! Complexion Perfection – The Origani Story Behind It

by Beauty Advisor on Aug 16 2019
THE ORIGANI COMPLEXION PERFECTION STORY I have worked in the beauty business for 22 years (I started early!). It’s been an amazing journey to experience it all, but the best part comes from seeing the real results of hard work and commitment. The best thing about a good beauty story? One that’s ending unfolds just the way it should have. This one has helped countless people overcome the most stubbornly defining global skin concern: Pigmentation. And so, the story goes…   Origani’s co-founder, a mother, pharmacist, product developer and all-round delightful gal-pal, Hili Yossef fell pregnant in the year of 2013. As we know, there are both joys and challenges of pregnancy and while she gave birth to a beautiful little boy, her face was left with the very common marks of pro-creation – Melasma (AKA pregnancy mask): brown patches of pigmentation typically found on the forehead, cheeks and neck.   It bothered her, but she knew she was certainly in the right place to try to tackle the issue head on. The thing was, our R&D team knew that treating hyperpigmentation successfully using organics had never truly been done and being an organic cosmetics company, Origani stood committed to not letting the task beat us. It was going to take some time as fading existing pigmentation and stopping its actual formation are 2 different things and we had to do both. So, 5 years went by with countless formulas and tests done, confronting the beast of Vitamin C stability, safety, results and multi-active ingredient compatibility – all while using organics.   So, how does the story end you may ask? Well, 2 wonderful things happened: 1. A 100% natural, organic line to successfully treat pigmentation had been perfected. 2. Miracle bubby number 2 was conceived. This time, a perfect little girl.   After cracking the code of treating hyperpigmentation topically, Hili no longer worried about the same skin concerns through/after her second pregnancy and all of the hard work left her feeling so empowered to launch our incredible pigmentation-fighting product duo to the world that was so safe yet brilliantly effective. Complexion Perfection was born.   WHAT IS PIGMENTATION AND WHAT CAUSES IT? Known As: skin discolouration, sunspots, hyperpigmentation, liver spots, dark spots and age spots Cause: Increase in melanin production. Melanin is what gives skin its pigment. How? At the bottom of our epidermis, we have skin cells called Melanocytes. Once they are activated, they start to produce melanin. Melanin travels all the way up the epidermis and creates a skin pigment (colour). Why? Melanocytes are activated by exposure to sunlight, acne scarring, laser treatments, medications, hormones and pollution.   3 STEPS PROCESS TO TREATING PIGMENTATION: 1. Weekly exfoliation with AHA’s Peel treatments (Manuka Honey Peel) 2. Sun protection UVA & UVB – of highest SPF grade for daily use (even on cloudy ones). 3. Topical skincare that both brightens and fades dark spots and also inhibits melanin cells from reaching the top layer of skin (Complexion Perfection)   COMPLEXION PERFECTION SOLUTION PRODUCTS: Complexion Perfection Ultra Bright Serum: A daily treatment serum for Pigmentated and Dull skin Key Ingredients: Certified Organic GIGAWHITE™, a complex of 7 powerful Swiss Alpine extracts selected for their powerful Tyrosinase inhibiting ability. Bio-active ILLUMISCIN® helps to reduce Lipofuscin pigmentation. Boosted with AHA fruit acid, Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid, the skin is left beautifully brightened and plumped.Key Benefits: Reduces the size, contour and colour of hyperpigmentation while preventing it from returning. Skin is left hydrated, plumper, brighter and more even in skin tone.   Complexion Perfection Dark Spot Correction Concentrate: A targeted brightening treatment pen for hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Key Ingredients: An intensive concentrated AHA complex of Lactic Acid (5%), Lime Pearl Caviar and fruit acids works in synergy with Biovitamin C Glucoside to exfoliate, fade pigmentation and brighten the skin.Key benefits: Reduces the appearance of dark spots and lines and wrinkles while providing superior antioxidant protection.   WHAT RESULTS CAN OUR CUSTOMERS EXPECT WHEN USING COMPLEXION PERFECTION? Results start to appear in 4 weeks, once the 28 days skin turnover cycle has been renewed. ✓ All forms of pigmentation will be visibly reduced.✓ Skin colour will appear brighter.✓ Skin colour will appear more even: reducing the need for strong makeup coverage.   I recently asked Hili why this was one of the biggest highlights of her career in cosmetic formulating. She responded, “We made a certified organic chemical peel – that was something we once thought impossible.” So, it’s evident why we at Origani headquarters can’t help but adore our Complexion Perfection duo. Try them for yourself. Your skin will be so happy you did!   Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. And, doing it with YOU alongside us has made it even more special. Our point of difference is what drives everything we do: to create natural and organic skincare products with luxury formulations that are beautiful to use and that deliver exceptional results. Your feedback, loyalty and commitment to sharing our brand message is what keeps us going!   So where did it all start a decade ago? Well, way back when, we knew that cruelty-free, natural and organic skincare was going to be the future beauty category leader in the industry. Antioxidants: Why They Are a Must in Your Food And Skincare This Winter!

by Moniruz Zaman on Jul 12 2019
Harsh and extreme conditions of icy cold temperatures, brutal winds, less sun and grizzly grey skies make winter a very fragile time of year. The doom and gloom of the season comes from catching and flighting off cold and flu viruses, hibernation, the mental blues, and skin that feels uncomfortably dry – to name a few.   The chilly season is also a time where we generally consume unhealthier foods to keep warm and comforted. Ironic, this is, because it’s a time of year when we actually need to consume the healthiest dietary components to make our bodies strong! One such component that is essential to our health and wellbeing is exposure to “antioxidants’. Most of us hear this buzz word regularly, but may not understand what they are, how they work and why they are essential to Increasing the body’s natural defences.   Before we explore the concept and mechanisms of antioxidants, it’s important to understand their nemesis, the nasty ‘free-radical’ molecule. Let’s revisit the basics of chemistry to clearly understand it all! WHAT ARE FREE RADICALS?   Free Radical Definition Free radicals are unstable atoms that can damage cells, causing illness and aging. These molecules are unstable due to having an unbalanced number of electrons. They are toxic to normal stable cells because they attack them, stealing one of their electrons. So, good cells are left permanently injured. Think of it like this: free radicals are robbers lacking in energy. They steal energy from other healthy cells. The damage is like a domino effect.   Where do Free Radicals come from? Free radical production is a normal part of life- they come from everywhere (both inside and outside of the body) and there is no avoiding them – in fact, we need a certain amount to fight off various diseases in the body. The problem arises when there is an excess accumulation of them. The biggest internal creator of free radicals is stress. Lifestyle and environmental sources include pollution, UV rays and cigarettes, junk food and alcohol to name a few.   What are the effects of Free Radicals? The greater the amount of free radical exposure, the greater and the faster the damage. Damage occurs first on a cellular functional level to eventually effect the precious DNA encased within the centre of the cell.Clusters of damaged cells build up causing more serious risks. Also, As the body ages, it loses its ability to fight the damaging effects of free radicals. The result is more free radicals, more oxidative stress, and more damage to cells. This leads to degenerative processes, including a host of diseases and various symptoms of aging, such as wrinkles and grey hair.   So, where to from here? Luckily mother nature has taken care of much of it with the ‘good fighters’ – Antioxidants. You just need to incorporate more of them into your day…   WHAT ARE ANTIOXIDANTS? Antioxidants Definition Antioxidants are stable oxygen molecules naturally designed to neutralise free radicals. They are abundant in electrons and so are the generous ‘givers’ of them: they donate a spare electron to the free radical to stabilise and prevent cellular damage. So, it makes sense that you need a continuous amount of them to take care of their enemy’s destruction. Additionally, due to their generosity, they expire – think of apple going brown (oxidising) – so that’s another important reason to frequently replenish them!   How do Antioxidants actually benefit our body and skin? Associated with good health, antioxidants can help… ✓ Quell inflammation in the body✓ Decrease the process of premature ageing✓ Play a pivotal role in fighting various diseases including Alzheimer’s and cancers   Where do Antioxidants come from? Antioxidants mostly come from natural food sources – winter fruits and veggies are jam packed with them. Many plant sources also contain antioxidant protection. Some vitamins and minerals themselves also serve as sources of antioxidants (Vitamin C and E and flavonoids are some of the most well-known ones.) The body produces some of its own antioxidants, but we need to ingest more to balance out our excess free radical exposure. Indeed, a heavily-based plant diet indicates the best protection from free radical damage.   It’s just as well Mother Nature has made it super easy for us to find antioxidant rich foods – just look at the fruits and veggies that are bright in colour. In fact, the brighter the colour, the richer the source of antioxidants (I.e Berries). Most of the ‘Superfoods’ are an excellent choice, like Acai berries. Here is a list of other popular foods/ingredients that also contain a rich source of antioxidants: Green Tea, Grapeseed, Kadadu Plum, Honey, Tomatoes, Sea Grapes and Pomegranate just to name a few.   ANTIOXIDANT INGREDIENTS AND SKINCARE You will also find antioxidants in a variety of skin health supplements and topical products. The accurate saying, “you are what you eat” is so very true. The majority of the antioxidants you ingest go directly to the body’s most important organs that keep us alive. Only a small percentage of ingested antioxidants will find their way to the skin. So, by applying antioxidants topically they reach the skin cells directly. It’s great to know that the ones we ingest, are usually the best ones to find in our skincare products.   ORIGANI ANTIOXIDANT-RICH SKINCARE SOLUTIONS ✓ Complexion Perfection Brightening Serum✓ Ageless By Nature Supernatural Green Caviar Butter✓ Erda Rich and Hydrating Day Cream and Soothing and Reviving Night Cream✓ Thermal Peel Collection   So, now we understand the world of antioxidants and why they are important to ingest and also apply topically. They are the ultimate selfless skin saviour volunteers! Oh, and one last thing…another great way to top up your supply of antioxidants is dark chocolate. Now you can eat it all you like, guilt-free! Renowned for its amazing overall health benefits – healing sore throats, digestive issues, wounds, gingivitis and even Insomnia to name a few – honey has been used for medicinal purposes dating back 1000’s years. In fact, it’s almost unbelievable that modern Archaeologists excavating the tombs of ancient Egyptians, once actually found unspoilt honey pots! Sounds incredible right? Well, Australian Manuka Honey is on another level again. Specifically derived from bees that pollinate on the nectar of Australian Manuka bushes, it is known to be one of the most unique and beneficial forms of honey in the world. Its exceptionally high nutritional profile (Amino Acids, B vitamins and Minerals) provide the very best antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal properties delivering incredible skin benefits: wound healing, skin PH balancing, pore cleansing, collagen promoting with supreme moisture attraction. Winter Skincare Salvages

Winter Skin Salvages [Part 2]

by Moniruz Zaman on Jun 20 2019
In the previous blog, we have discussed the importance of skincare during winter. Now, let's scroll down to get the greatest pieces of advice to protect your skin this winter!   Below are some very handy tips to get you prepared for the colder months ahead…   Modify your skincare routine ✓ Opt for a gentler less-foamy cleanser with a formula that is free of sulphates, soaps and other detergent based ingredients that leave the skin feeling tight and dry. Also, cleansing your skin daily is important, but over cleansing and stripping essential moisture can leave you with skin hungry for moisture and balance. ✓ Consider adding a more hydrating, vitamin-rich serum to your routine for an extra boost of moisture and protection. The healthier and more hydrated your skin is, the better it will be able to defend itself.   ✓ A restorative night cream is a must for winter. PM creams are more intensive and nutrifying so as to assist the skin in its natural healing and repairing functions whilst we sleep. Be sure to apply a healthy does to your skin as soon as you have left the shower.   ✓ Keep applying sunscreen even on grey overcast days. The sun’s harmful UV rays still have a way of finding us at times you wouldn’t imagine it could. Don’t think twice and make it a daily habit.   ✓ Invest in a good lip balm. Wind-chapped lips not only look unflattering but they can also be rather sore! Steer clear of petroleum-based balms that dehydrate lips long term, instead of using a lip treatment enriched with natural ingredients including essential oils, Shea butter and beeswax. Apply daily with your favourite lip colour and before bed for a soft supple and well-hydrated pout.   ✓ Resurface and brighten the skin with a weekly exfoliation treatment. The winter chill and artificial heating dry out the skin at a rapid rate, but it’s important to remember that over exfoliating can also have the same effect. Stick to X2 weekly.   ✓ Use a hydrating face mist often, even over makeup.   ✓ Opt for a more natural, chemical-free skincare brand. They are often less potentially irritating and gentler with biocompatible natural ingredients that better moisturise, protect and soothe compromised skin.   Origani Recommends: Erda Daily Glow Toning Cleanser, Ageless by Nature Youth Infusion Booster Serum, Erda Soothing and Reviving Night Cream, Mineral Lover Lip Balm, and Erda Manuka Honey Peel.   Modify your environment ✓ Consider installing a humidifier in your home (particularly in the bedroom) to put moisture back into the air. Not only will it assist in preventing a dry sore throat and blocked nose, but it will also stop your skin from drying out. ✓ While no doubt essential in the winter months, heating systems can significantly dry out the air, dehydrating the skin. Refrain from blasting the heating in your car directly on your face and turn down the thermostat so the temperature is comfortable but not too hot.✓ Protect your skin and body from the harsh winter elements by wearing protective clothing. Layer up and enjoy!   Modify your behaviours ✓ Sip on warm winter tea in winter is a great way to boost your immunity and keep you warm on the inside. They are full of antioxidants which also fortify your complexion. Opt for green, ginger and lemon and chamomile and pop some Manuka Honey into sooth a sore throat (only to warm tea).✓ While a steaming hot shower is tempting, it’s not a good idea for your skin. Ever so slightly lower the water temp to stop your skin from drying out. Be sure to moisturise both face and body as soon as you get out. ✓ Keep up our H2O intake. You may not feel as thirsty in the winter months (it’s a time we generally drink less) but it’s still important to reach your 8 glass a day goal. ✓ Limit your alcohol intake. While a full-bodied shiraz by the fire is lovely, limit your intake as its very dehydrating. ✓ Swap to gentler, chemical-free detergents (kitchen and laundry). They are kinder to drier skin. ✓ Don’t forget to moisturise your body too. Just because it’s not the skin on your face and not generally as visible in the colder months, the skin on the rest of your body needs it just as much. Origani recommends Whipped Body Butter in Pure Tranquillity.   So, it seems that happy and glowing winter skin is more achievable than ever. A few modifications to suit the season is all it takes and starting now is the perfect time to get your skin ready for the colder days and nights to come. Face this beautiful time of year with a complexion that radiates health and vitality. Be good to your skin and it will be good to you! Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. Winter Skin Salvages [Part 1]

by Moniruz Zaman on May 28 2019
Leaving home in the mornings to the frosty cold air can leave us feeling pretty miserable as do those dull grey lingering afternoons with darkness falling earlier than ever. A sniffily nose and niggling sore throat often rear at some point, not to mention our skin taking a decent hit too. In fact, cold weather, harsh winds and low humidity, together with artificial indoor heating and more relaxed dietary habits can test our body and skin’s resilience and strength more than any other season.   The skin is the largest organ of the body and directly in touch with the external environment. It is essentially our most vital protective shield yet it definitely takes some brutal assault from the harsh wintery elements. Our skin needs some extra TLC in the colder months and this predominantly means keeping the ‘barrier of the skin’ protected from vital moisture loss. Barrier of The Skin This barrier, also known as the Hydrolipidic film, is a fine translucent defensive layer that sits on top of the Epidermis (top layer of skin) and is made up of sweat, oil and water, carrying with it, some very important functions. In short, our hydrolipidic film needs to be well-balanced and maintained to make sure the skin is: 1. Protected against environmental aggressors and bacteria2. Kept at a healthy moisture level for comfortability and prevention of premature aging3. Maintained at the optimum acidity level (PH) to fight infection 4. Defended from developing more serious skin conditions including psoriasis, rosacea and dermatitis   When the barrier of the skin is compromised, the skin can become dry, sensitive and fragile. This can cause the skin to appear more prematurely aged and stressed, the result being: ✓ Wrinkles and dry fine lines ✓ Tightening✓ Dullness✓ Thinning✓ Mottled, red, irritated and itchy✓ Rough and uneven textured Such a dysfunctional barrier can take some time to repair and rebalance to restore optimal skin health. Put simply, your skin behaves differently in winter and you need to listen to what your skin is telling you it needs. This means, making some slight changes to your skincare routine, your environmental surroundings and some lifestyle behaviours. Move on to [Part 2] of this blog to discover exactly how and what your skin needs. Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. Right Face Mask

Beauty Advice

Which Face Mask is Right For You?

by Moniruz Zaman on May 27 2019
Most of us know that a good face mask is a key skincare must-have for taking your complexion to a new level of health and vitality. These super hard-working potions are often actively ingredient-rich making them powerful in their performance, not to mention fun to use and even therapeutic in nature. However, with so many different types of masks available in a variety of formulations, its no wonder that you may be a little overwhelmed and confused as to which one is most suitable for you. If it’s not confusing enough, we ultimately need to ‘co-manage’ our complexion by way of managing both our individual skin type (combination, oily or dry etc) and any other various skin concerns (wrinkles, pigmentation etc) that may be present. To refresh, your skin type is the amount of oil that is present on the skin naturally, is genetically determined and that usually stays the same for life. Your daily skincare basics such as your cleaner and moisturiser should be formulated to manage this underlying skin behaviour/type. On the other hand, skin concerns are those issues we have with our complexion that come and go and that generally occur due to external or lifestyle influences. The good news is that they can usually be corrected relatively well with the right care and product choices: masks and other skincare treatments (i.e. serums) generally work best when they are specifically formulated for those skin concerns you may have. So, now that we are refreshed on skin physiology, let’s get back to face masks. To make it all a little easier to navigate through, it’s important to know the overall functions of a mask and how to best select one for most effective result. Masks are a once to twice weekly intense treatment designed to deliver instant rebalancing and reenergising results to the complexion. Let’s now address the: ✓ Four main mask categories✓ The specific skin concerns they treat✓ Their expected results✓ What types of ingredients you should generally find in them✓ A usage top-tip✓ Complimenting product recommendation     MASK CATEGORIES   Nourishing and Hydrating Masks Relative skin conditions: Dehydration, flakiness, crepiness and dull skin Results: Plumps, refreshes, moisturises and makes skin feel more comfortable (less tight) Key Ingredients to look out for: AHA’s, Hyaluronic acid Top tip: Apply mask to a damp skin for a more intensely hydrating result Origani product solution: Immortajell Wrinkle Diffusing Mask   Anti-ageing and Age-corrective Masks Relative skin conditions: Lines and wrinkles, loss of firmness, loss of volume, Results: Firmer, tighter, more toned and lifted skin that also looks brighter and plumper Key Ingredients to look out for: AHA’s Peptides, Collagen, Hyaluronic acid Top tip: Pop on your favourite anti-ageing serum before mask application. As the mask activates the serum will penetrate the skin for a more powerful treatment Origani product solution: Anti-ageing: Immortajell Wrinkle Diffusing Mask. For a more intense age-restorative treatment, 24k Gold Mask Collection   Detoxifying and Purifying Masks Relative skin conditions: Oily and congested skin with breakouts and enlarged pores Results: Clearer, calmer (less inflamed and red) and more balanced skin with fewer breakouts due the masks’ detoxing action Key Ingredients to look out for: Kaolin clay, Chamomile, Peppermint and/or Tea Tree oils Top tip: Use the mask intermittently as a spot treatment when the odd pimple arises. Also, clay masks are mostly beneficial targeting only the oiler area of the face (i.e. t-zone) Origani product solution: Dermassure Clear & Calm Pore Refining Mask (Certified Organic)   Exfoliating and Brightening Masks Relative skin conditions: Dull, lack-lustre skin, pigmentation/sun damage, scarring and rough texture Results: A clearer, more radiant complexion with more even skin colouring and smooth texture Key Ingredients to look out for: Bentonite clay, AHA’s, Licorice, Green Tea Top tip: Exfoliate your skin the day before applying the mask. This way, your skin will be calm and settled and perfectly prepped for good product absorption Origani product solution: Erda Pigmentation Correction Green Apple Clay Mask     Here’s the best piece of advice though: multi-masking is one of the best and most efficient ways to perfectly balance your complexion. Our skin often presents with some unequal issues, or localised concerns that need addressing. A couple of different masks worn at the same time in different facial zones is the trick to rebooting the skin’s equilibrium. A very common example of this is when a dehydrated skin may also be showing signs of congestion in the t-zone: cheeks need moisture, t-zone needs purifying. Double it up I say! Enjoy your mask time and remember that your skin changes according to the seasons, to various lifestyle choices and how well you are looking after yourself. Be sure to reassess your skin quarterly to give it what it needs to be its very best.   Happy masking! Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. Do's of Face Masking

The 5 Do's of Face Masking

by Moniruz Zaman on May 22 2019
Nothing makes your skin feel more revitalised than a lusciously indulgent face mask. There is something so therapeutic about doing one in the comfort of your own home on your time, and that glorious feeling you get once your face is fresh and ready to go. It’s like a beauty recharge for your skin, mind and overall wellbeing. More than ever, the beauty world has seen a great surge in the ‘skincare masks’ category. This is due to a couple of reasons. Firstly, face masks have come such a long way in terms of ingredient and formulation innovation and ‘activeness’ whereby their results are highly desirable. Secondly, our skin is, more than ever, subjected to a number of environmental assaults and lifestyle consequences –it is no wonder that by the end of the week (although mid-week masks are now a regular thing) our skin is crying out for an added boost of reenergising nutrients and hydration and/or a good deep-pore purifying cleanse. Put simply, our skin is often on the defensive so more than ever, it needs extra help to adequately recover. For skincare and self-care enthusiasts, face masks are indeed an addictive pleasure as there is so much to love about them. So, why do those of us who regularly use them, love them?   FACE MASKS ARE FAB BECAUSE: They offer an intense treatment A face mask is equivalent to getting a deep treatment for your strands at the hair salon. It’s an over and above (your normal skincare routine) beauty step designed to infuse your skin with some extra TLC as you need. They are fast and hard-working and only required weekly Delivering results between 10-30 minutes a week is all it takes to refresh and re-boost the complexion. Transformational results are almost always evident By giving the skin a high dose of the ingredients it needs to get back into great shape, a dramatically refreshed and reenergised skin is soon after revealed. Giving yourself the time to apply a face mask means giving back a little something for yourself They can give you that spa-like pampered feeling and can be very relaxing if worn in the bath or while you enjoy some downtime. There is a mask for almost every skin concern Rarely does our skin stay the same for extended periods as our lifestyles and environments can throw things off a little from time to time. Jumped on a long-haul flight? Sat in an air-conditioned office all day? Experienced that monthly breakout we all dread? These are the perfect times to restore the balance your skin needs. They are the ultimate recovery product We are all guilty of not looking after our skin as well as we should at times, so masks are perfect for when you need to recuperate your skin on occasion.   If you are new to the idea of face masking or are on the lookout for something new and fabulous, there are a few things you need to know. It can get quite overwhelming as there are so many to choose from with different formulations for different skin types and concerns. These Do’s and Don’ts are designed for you to make sure you are getting the most out of your mask.   THE 5 DO’S OF FACE MASKING Choose the right mask for your skin type/condition With so many formulas out there, it can be confusing to know what is right for you. If you are unsure of your skin type or other potential skin conditions, visit your nearest Origani store for a complimentary skin diagnosis. Once you know what your skin needs, it’s quite straightforward from there. Its always handy to keep both a purifying and a hydrating mask at home as there are always times where our skin will need one or the other.   Prepare your skin properly before mask application Almost always, a warm wet complexion works best prior to treatment as the pores are open and the skin is calm. Make sure your hands are also washed so as not to transfer bacteria. Also, lock in the benefits of the mask by layering a finishing serum and moisturiser on directly after mask removal.   Apply the mask to the right areas A great idea is to ‘zone’ your mask application. If you have an oily t-zone and drier cheeks, use the right formulas only on the area you need to treat. If you’re in a skin-savvy mood, use two different masks on different areas of the face at the same time for that ultimate rebalancing treatment.   Follow usage instructions It’s tempting to leave a mask on your face for either too little or too long. The truth is though, through product testing, the benefit peak is established and hence the treatment will only be as good as how well you have followed the instructions. In fact, leaving a mask on longer than you should overstimulate and irritate your skin.   Bring the product down to the décolletage This is especially important for an anti-ageing or hydrating mask asthe neck area is one of the first to show premature signs of ageing through environmental exposures. There are also very few oil glands in this area and your skin could do with some added moisture and repairing.   Continue reading The 5 Don'ts of Face Masking.   Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. The Don'ts of Face Masking

The 5 Don'ts of Face Masking

by Moniruz Zaman on May 22 2019
So you have learned about The 5 Dos of Face Masking and why face masks are so fab. Let find out The 5 Don'ts of Face Masking now!   THE 5 DON’TS OF FACE MASKING Skip the step. Be sure to make the usage of a face mask a weekly habit. Why? It enhances the performance of your everyday skincare routine and gives your skin a consistent boost of nutrients, rebalancing the complexion for optimum skin behaviour.   Remove the mask in the wrong manner. When washing off the mask, be sure not to use too cool or too hot water and do not harshly rub your face dry with a towel as doing so can stress the skin. Use a warm face washer and press onto the skin gently for a few seconds to make product removal easier.   Use a harsh exfoliator directly before mask application. While it is fine to do a gentle exfoliation before a moisturising mask, steer clear of doing one prior to brightening or problem skin formulas – such masks will probably have chemical exfoliants in them and can be a little stronger so it’s best to avoid overstimulating the skin.   Apply too much product! Generally, a thin layer of product is all you need for the mask to be most effective. Anymore, and its wasteful. Yes, you need to look as though you are wearing a mask, but if it’s not completely dry by the time it is ready to take off, you have used too much.   Apply the mask too close to the eyes. The eye area is the finest and most fragile part of the face. Loading up the area with highly active ingredients and setting clay can dry out the area, making it red and flaky. Pop some eye cream on prior to mask application to prevent the mask bleeding inwards towards the eyes.   Now you have the Do’s and Don’ts of face masking down pat, you are ready to mask it up! Ultimately, no matter what skin concerns you are facing, masks are designed to ultimately revive and refresh the complexion here and now. You will reap the best results if you select a formula that is right for your skin type and skin concerns and that includes superior ingredients, you use it regularly, and you maintain your skin with a good skincare routine on an everyday basis. So tonight, fill a bath, light a candle and layer on some masking goodness. The Minimalist Beauty Trend of 2020

by Moniruz Zaman on Apr 24 2019
Sometimes we feel like spending half an hour on perfecting our brows or indulging in a luxury 30-minute skin pampering session on a self-spoiling night in. Sometimes we just don’t have that sort of time to commit to our beauty rituals and sometimes we simply don’t care to. You have probably heard of ‘Minimalist Beauty’ at some point or another. It’s certainly a big topic now in the world of cosmetics. So, what does it actually mean? Well, it can mean a couple of different things depending on how you want to interpret it. To outline its understanding, Minimalist Beauty can ultimately mean embracing: 1. Simplification: Cutting down on excessive beauty products and adopting a simplified beauty routine that is time efficient and easy to perform 2. Clean skincare practices: a more natural philosophy to beauty with less synthetic ingredients and chemical additives used in products 3. Barely-there makeup: Using minimal colour essentials for that fresh-faced look to effortlessly highlight your natural beauty 4. A skin focus: It’s more about your complexion and less about bold colour and glam makeup Undeniably, it’s a very appealing trend that has influenced even the most product-obsessed beauty enthusiasts. This is probably because at some point, we all desire some sort of simplification. For those of us who love an indulgent ‘layered approach’ to cosmetics and are happy to put in the time to complete it, there are always those occasions where we don’t have time, or we need to pair it all back a little (e.g. while on vacation). So, whether it is for a day, a week, just on the weekends or every day of the week, keeping it minimal has its perks.   WINTER IS THE PERFECT TIME FOR MINIMALISATION Our skincare and make-up winter refresh (where we clean out our products and make room for some new alternatives) is just around the corner. It’s the perfect time of year to warm up and nurture your skin with natural ‘clean’ formulations. And let’s be honest, there are just some days where we will want to stay under the doona a little longer on frosty mornings where our time is of the essence! Let’s look at how you can incorporate some Minimalist Beauty philosophies into your routine.   MINIMALIST SKINCARE While the ‘natural’ and ‘organic’ based skincare category is still the fastest growing movement by far, there are really two types of beauty habits that are dominating the cosmetics industry at present: the multi-layered approach and the minimalist approach. One is not better that the other. If fact, as discussed earlier, many people like to switch them up interchangeably according to their lifestyle needs. Minimalist Beauty embodies a simpler skincare routine. Think of it like a ‘diet’ for your skincare. This means fewer products (for both AM and PM use) that are also multi-tasking and still formulated with the best active ingredients. A streamlined regime should look as follows: an all-in -one cleanser-toner, a serum/treatment, an exfoliating mask, and all-rounder moisturiser and eye product. It also means adopting more natural and organic skincare philosophies (including vegan alternatives) due to their exclusion of well-known avoidable synthetic additives. Less chemicals equals more comfort, giving the skin a chance to breathe a little while absorbing more biocompatible natural actives. Of course, this does not mean a lesser overall product experience: going to a higher-end green brand now means you don't have to compromise on sensorial pleasure, luxurious textures and superior product performance any more. You are absolutely free to get your full-effect glam on whenever you like (and let’s face it, it’s totally fun) but you are also beautiful enough to brave a barer face whenever you wish. It’s all about the freedom to choose. There are three principles to Minimalist Beauty in the world of colour: Pair it back: ditch the intensity of glam makeup trends and go for a fresher natural look or pick one feature of your face to focus on and go with it (e.g., lips or eyes)Choose good-for-you products: with more natural formulations that also incorporate skincare benefitsWear make-up smartly: let your products work for you in a multitude of ways   Top pick skincare multitaskers: Mineral Foundation: your foundation should be as beneficial to your skin as your skincare is. Remember, make-up is only as good as your skin. Opt for a quality made foundation and go a sheer coverage natural finish (preferably mineral-based).Bronzer: your bronzer should offer diversity with the ability to contour, deepen your overall complexion, and define your eye socket. Go semi-matte, with a not too shimmery finish. Learn more about our bronzer here. Eyeshadow: use a darker matte eyeshadow to both line the outer lids of your eyes and define your brows (brows are a great way to add definition and structure to the eye area). Mineral blush: highlight and define your cheeks with naturally flushed shades to create a fresh healthy glow on-the-go. Lip balm: it’s all about clear hydrated lips but if you want a little more than that, mix in some pigment from your mineral blush/bronzer to create a flattering custom colour lip colour.   So, in wrapping it up, it’s true to say that they best thing about beauty is that there is never an all-or-nothing option. The world of beauty represents a way of self-expression and Minimalist Beauty is but one option. Simplistic beauty routines, cleaner more natural skincare options and barely-there effortless makeup looks all define Minimalist Beauty. Whether you choose minimal beauty options due to a more pure, conscious living commitment, a way to save some time and money or simply because you prefer the way it makes you look and feel, the trend is undeniably a great source of inspiration to so many of us. Many hail it simply as a ‘trend’, but due to its practical, appealing and timeless nature, ‘Minimalist Beauty’ will always be here to stay – whenever you like, however you like, your way. It's All in The Eyes [Part 1]

by Moniruz Zaman on Apr 04 2019
We have all heard the saying “it’s all in the eyes,” and so much of that is true. Past and recent scientific findings confirm that your eyes do indeed tell the world so much about you both consciously and unconsciously. They can indicate important health concerns and how well you are looking after yourself, the status of your emotional and psychological well- being, and can often be a source of strong communication (e.g. whether we are telling the truth or not). Another truth that our eyes often fail to hide is our age. Yes, the eyes are the first part of us that people immediately connect with and can be quite telling. And so, it makes sense that the eye area is the biggest complaint the beauty industry hears about. Although there is undeniably a hereditary component to how and why our eyes age, many other reasons are generally not ones that we are born with but rather ones that are triggered by both internal (i.e. hormones) and external influences (i.e. lifestyle choices) through life. The eyes are the fastest areas of the face to age. Why? Because the area contains minimal fat tissue and supportive muscle in the bottom layer of the skin (Hypodermis). In fact, the area is approximately 1/10 the thickness to the rest of the skin on the face. Additionally, there is a lack of oil glands in the area to condition and protect the skin. Think of the skin around your eyes as like very thin paper; fragile and extremely delicate. So, it’s a NO to rigorous eye rubbing when you are tired or they are itchy, as tempting as it is! From time to time, we experience different eye area concerns, and we can often also fight more than one eye area concern at a time. New baby? Dark and hollow raccoon eyes. Long haul flight? Dehydration and creepiness. A river of tears cried from a broken heart? Puffiness and swelling. Spring time? Bags aplenty. Constantly straining while glaring at the laptop screen? Expression lines from frowning. A stressful situation bringing about minimal sleep, poor diet, worry and anxiety? All the above! These outcomes are often temporary and can be sorted out relatively quickly. However, the most substantial complaint concerning the eye area that we hear comes from the most visible by-product of the ageing journey – lines and wrinkles. Fine lines evolve into ‘crow’s feet’ eventually becoming deeply impressed in the corners of our eyes. While preventative treatments are always best to ward off early lines, sometimes we understand that notion a little too late. And although wrinkles are inevitable, there really are some marvelous age-restorative eye treatments available to soften, diffuse and improve the appearance of wrinkles once established. As you will discover, there are some super effective measures that you can take, sans surgery and fillers, that make a significant difference in the appearance of most of the well-known eye area concerns. A commitment to using smart targeted skincare paired with some simple lifestyle remedies often result in the appearance of more youthful sparkling peepers with that fresh look of being rested and fabulous!   Let’s now explore each eye area concern in detail, so we best know how to target them. LINES & WRINKLES: It feels like it almost happens overnight. You wake up one morning and there they are. Lines and wrinkles have formed. They are no longer those little dry fine lines that disappear with moisturising. No, they are stubborn deeper ridges that sit around your eyes, namely crow’s feet. Causes: lines and wrinkles around the area are caused by collagen, elastin, fat and muscle breakdown. Premature lines and wrinkles appear due to sun damage, the stress of years of repetitive facial movements, unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking and poor eating, and well, the list goes on. What can I do? always wear sunscreen and wide-rimmed sunglasses when outdoors, embrace more effective sleeping practices including using a silk pillow and sleeping on your back, and ditch the unhealthy habits of excess alcohol, smoking and junk food. Must-have key actives in your eye treatment: Hyaluronic Acid Fills in and plumps wrinkles Multi-peptide complex Firms, tightens and stimulates collagen Sericin Softening, strengthening and hydrating   Origani solution: Immortajell Wrinkle Diffusing Eye Cream Immortajell Instant Wrinkle and Puffiness Remover     PUFFINESS Waking up from a big night out on the town? Watched the notebook last night? Your eyes will probably be uncomfortably feeling it and looking rather puffy and swollen the morning after! This occurs due to temporary swelling and inflammation. A pooling of fluid in the area occurs, and while your body will try its hardest to drain this excess fluid, sometimes we need a little extra help. Causes: The eyes are extremely vulnerable to any changes the body goes through. Hormonal changes, lack of sleep, seasonal allergies, excess salt and alcohol in your diet, crying and even cranking up the central heating overnight, can all cause fluid retention and swelling. What can I do? It’s all about ‘deflating’ the area: keep your eyes cool by apply a cold compress to the eyes. Apply an eye product that has been stored in the fridge and stay clear of eye products that contain strong fragrances. Give yourself a simple lymphatic eye massage. Drink plenty of water to defy dehydration and water retention, elevate your head a little when sleeping and take your eye makeup off before bed! Must- have key actives in your eye treatment: Hyaluronic Acid Fills in, plumps and hydrates Cucumber and Aloe Vera Anti-inflammatories – cools and calms Peptides Firms and tightens eye area Antioxidants Protects and repairs delicate skin   Origani solution: Erda Eye Gel Concentrate ImmortajellInstant Wrinkle and Puffiness Remover   Visit our [Part 2] to learn more about dark circle, bags and tips for looking after your eye area!       Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. It's All in The Eyes [Part 2]

After getting a deep understanding of Lines & Wrinkles and Puffiness in [Part 1], we believe Dark Circles and Eyebags can't be left out of your concerns. The second part of this blog will also give you 4 Ultimate Tips For Looking After Your Eye Area! So... Let's continue! DARK CIRCLES We have all had them at one time or another. Those racoon-like dark rings under our eyes, purplish or bluish in hue, that can present a rather unwanted fatigued and dull look. Micro vessels under/around the eye can become permeable and leak fluid and subsequently the blood pools under the eyes causing a bruised like appearance. Causes: The natural ageing process is largely responsible for the cause of dark circles, as volume loss under the eyes and thinning of the skin occur. There is also a strong genetic link to dark circles: a family history, your natural skin tone and inherited eye shape are some such well known causes. When it comes to skin tone, it seems eye area dark circles take no favourites: fair-skinned individuals have more transparency leaving more visible veins and darker skinned people have more pigment, darkening the skin under their eyes and lids. A hollower or deep-set eye shape can also cast a shadow, making dark circles look more obvious. What can I do? The goal is to ultimately minimise the appearance of the blood vessels under the skin. To do this, we need to minimise blood pooling and toxin build-up in the eye area by sleeping more, rubbing the eyes less, and reducing eye strain. Additionally, lowering sun exposure can reduce melanin production in the area. Camouflage with good colour correcting light-reflecting concealer and opt for a mineral base to avoid any potential unwanted eye irritation. Must- have key actives in your eye treatment: Vitamin C (particularly Ascorbyl glucoside) Radiance boosting and skin lightening Vitamin A Strengthens and thickens skin Cucumber and Aloe Vera Anti-inflammatories – cools and calms   Origani solution: Erda Eye Gel Concentration Erda Deep Wrinkle Treatment BAGS Although generally harmless, eye baggage it one of the most common yet bothersome beauty complaints we hear about. The term ‘undereye bags’ are often interchangeably used to define eye puffiness however they are actually the result of the three most common eye area concerns coming together: puffiness, dark circles and natural ageing (sagging/lines etc). Causes: The true definition of bags comes from skin laxity, with fat moving lower into the bottom eyelids. Puffiness occurs due excess fluid retention and darker circles from the skin thinning out. Unfortunately, they are unavoidable to a degree. It’s simply a part of ageing for some. What can I do? To tackle eye bags, a good all-rounder eye treatment to target lines/sagginess, dark circles and puffiness is required. Additionally, exempting the common culprits listed above in each eye concern will dramatically help in minimising their appearance. Origani solution: Immortajell Wrinkle Diffusing Eye Cream Immortajell Instant Wrinkle and Puffiness Reducer   TIPS FOR LOOKING AFTER YOUR EYE AREA 1. Adopt a hardworking eye cream The debate sometimes still arises: is an eye product truly necessary? Why can’t I just use my other facial products around that area? The answer to that is, if you are serious about combatting your eye area frustrations, then certainly invest in a treatment specifically designed for the eyes. Good eye creams have been designed differently to other facial products for a reason: as detailed earlier, the eye area is much thinner and more fragile compared to other areas of the face. An eye cream is designed with a smaller molecular structure and alternative supportive delivery systems (key actives) in mind. Also, as the area is so delicate, using ingredients from other facial products may be too heavy or acidic, potentially causing inflammation/irritation and hence unnecessary signs of premature ageing. Look for: ✓ Proven ingredients that strengthen the skin around the eye area (as listed above) ✓ A multi-tasking formula designed to combat several eye area concerns ✓ Packaging with a pump cylinder that prevents bacteria growth and provides the perfect dosage ✓ A chemical free formula that won’t disrupt the delicate eye area (fragrance, preservatives, alcohol etc.) ✓ If you are concerned with dryness, lines and wrinkles, opt for a cream formula as they are generally more nourishing and effective. A gel formula is terrific for puffiness.   2. It’s all in the application ✓ To apply, use the finger that gives the least resistance (ring finger)✓ Dab in circular motions right around the occipital bone in an anti-clockwise direction. This stimulates all eye muscles and at the same time, improves circulation, moving any stubborn pooled blood and toxins✓ Don’t rub, pull or stretch the eye area when applying✓ Only apply to the eyelid if the product instructs it’s safe to do so✓ Don’t apply too close to the eye as cream travels and may aggravate the inside of the eyes✓ If you suffer from puffiness, swelling or bags, keep your eye treatment in the fridge for an added refreshingly cooling and calming effect✓ Don’t use an eye cream that is designed for a more mature skin than you have. Using a very rich formula will not necessarily give you any more preventative protection from ageing, and it may also be too rich for you, causing adverse effects   3. ‘Fake it until you make it’ Sometimes we all just need a little extra help to look as fresh as a daisy right NOW. Accordingly, be sure to also invest in in these eye make-up must-haves: ✓ A colour correcting concealer, preferably look for a creamy formula that is mineral based and has hydrating light reflecting properties (weblink) ✓ A white pencil in the rim of the eyes to open them up and brighten the area ✓ A well-defined brow to add shape, contour and lift to our eyes (weblink)   4. Listen to what your eyes are telling you So ‘the eyes don’t lie.’ If you are looking tired and fatigued, puffy and dark, it’s also time to reflect on why. Life has a way of showing on our face, and the eyes are indeed the place it usually happens first. Get some early nights, take time to chill, replenish those lost fluids, and nourish your body with essential nutrients. And while preparing that fresh green salad bowl, get some cold cucumbers out and pop them on your peepers! Wink! Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. Let's Talk About The 'A' Word - Ageing [Part 2]

by Moniruz Zaman on Mar 20 2019
Let's continue our journey of understanding ageing! This blog talks about the processes behind ageing and the visible signs of ageing and our general advice for your skin. Kindly visit [Part 1] of this blog to understand more about skin ageing and the direct causes of it. THE PROCESSES BEHIND AGEING ➤ Collagen and Elastin proteins (connective tissue) that are responsible for the structure, strength and flexibility of the skin diminish causing lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity.➤ Fat and muscle mass decline leaving the skin hollow and sagging.➤ Less hyaluronic acid (water in skin) and sebaceous oil is naturally produced which dries out the skin leaving it sensitive, fragile and thin.➤ Melanin production triggered over the years leaves its mark through visible age spots and an uneven complexion. ➤ The normal 28-day skin cell turnover cycle and the skin’s circulation processes become sluggish too, ultimately leaving a rougher textured complexion.   The consequences of these processes or the end result, and what we actually see, are outlined below:   THE VISIBLE SIGNS OF AGEING Initial signs – Epidermis (top layer of skin) is generally affected. Fine lines and wrinklesRough skin textureDehydrationSkin discoloration Advanced signs – Dermis and Hypodermis (middle and bottom layers of skin) are generally affected. Age spotsLoss of elasticity and sagging skin Loss of volume and fatDryness and skin fragilitySensitivity and broken capillaries   So now that we are equipped with the knowledge of how, why, and when the skin ages both naturally and prematurely, let’s take a look at what we can do to look after our skin as best as we possibly can…   YOUR SKINCARE GAME PLAN   DESIGNING YOUR SKINCARE REGIME: 1. Select a cleanser and moisturiser that is suitable to your skin type.2. Select your treatments (serum, eye cream, mask etc) based on any anti-ageing skin conditions you may have (i.e. wrinkles or pigmentation)   YOUR DAILY SKINCARE REGIME SHOULD BE AS FOLLOWS: Morning: Protect and prevent. Your skin faces the harshness of the environment and its elements during the day. Focus on moisture, antioxidants and sunscreen.Evening: Restore and replenish. The body goes through a process of healing and repairing when you sleep. You can further assist this natural biological process by replacing those lost essential nutrients, vitamins, minerals and lipids.   KEY NOTEWORTHY INGREDIENTS TO LOOK FOR: Use products that include a healthy dose of proven anti-ageing ingredients including antioxidants, peptides, vitamins a and c, AHA’s, Hyaluronic acid, lipids and ceramides to name a few.   ORIGANI'S SKINCARE SOLUTIONS Fine lines and wrinkles: Immortajell, Ageless By Nature Green Caviar Super Natural ButterRough skin texture: Erda Manuka Honey Peel, Activating Thermal Peel CollectionSkin discoloration & Age spots: Complexion Perfection Loss of elasticity and sagging skin: Ageless By Nature Loss of volume and fat: Immortajell Dehydration: Immortajell All aging concerns: 24K Gold Collection         GENERAL ADVICE FOR YOUR SKIN Skincare Lifestyle ✓ Cleanse skin gently avoiding harsh soaps or astringent based formulas✓ Always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen – even on cloudy overcast days✓ Avoid harsh chemicals and preservatives in your skincare products✓ Don’t over exfoliate (1-2X a week is plenty)✓ Use a good quality eye cream, facial serum and treatment mask containing proven beneficial skin ingredients✓ Apply a moisturiser X2 daily suitable to your skin type✓ Add anti-ageing hand and neck creams to your ritual - these areas are giveaways to your age– you will thank me later! ✓ Adopt a healthy diet (cut out excess refined sugar and carbohydrates)✓ Avoid the sun if possible, from 10-3pm✓ Continue habitual physical activity✓ Quit smoking and reduce alcohol intake✓ Get any moles regularly checked✓ Enjoy lukewarm showers✓ Adopt the use of a satin pillow (and sleep on your back if you can!)✓ Get 8 hours sleep a night and commit to some health-giving R&R time when you can. So, in bringing it all to a close, its important to summarise what the key take outs are in the journey of physically ageing well. Caring about your appearance is often associated with vanity, however, we also all know that when you look your best you often feel your best, so why not right? We all know the saying “age is a state of mind.” It’s not your actual age that matters because you can look fabulous any time. Gaining a more mature appearance can be desirable, beautiful, sexy, and confidence boosting. Case in point, Helen Mirren. The focus needs to be about avoiding the nasty and unhealthy causes behind premature ageing. I guess the bottom line is, love and be kind to yourself and your body. Happiness, sleep, healthy lifestyle habits and emotional joy all significantly boost your chances of a positive ageing experience. Additionally, skincare has come such a long way in terms of the preventative and corrective results that can be achieved. A daily protective and replenishing natural skincare ritual is a must – it is such a beautiful time to take care of you. Whenever I ask someone with beautiful skin what their secret is, it is always the same answer, “I look after it!” As Eleanor Roosevelt once famously remarked, “beautiful young people are accidents of nature, but beautiful older people are works of art!” Origani is an Australian luxury organic skincare brand. Skin Type and Correctly Determine Yours

Beauty Advice

What is a Skin Type and How do You Correctly Determine Yours?

by Moniruz Zaman on Mar 20 2019
When it comes to talking about the skin, this is one of the most important topics to address first, for a couple of reasons. The first one is because the foundation for building your skincare regime is based on your individual type and secondly, because even though most people feel they know their skin type, it is actually often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. This leads to improper skincare practices and lots of money spent on products that cause the skin to be unbalanced and erratic. Let’s clarify what a skin type really means and how to define your own correctly, once and for all. What is Skin Type? Your skin type is essentially defined by two things, the amount of oil naturally present on the skin and your skin’s natural behaviour. A really simple way to understand and tackle your natural skin type is to think about the word “BALANCE.” Balancing oil is the key to stabilising your skin type and getting your skin to behave as healthily as possible. At this point, it’s important that we don’t confuse skin type with certain skin conditions that can be present alongside one’s natural skin type. Just to clarify, a skin condition refers to the skin’s reactive behaviour to external and internal stimulants (environment, diet and lifestyle etc). Think skin concerns like dehydration, wrinkles and pigmentation to name a few. They are often temporary and can be treated. In terms of your skin type, you are born with the skin type you will carry through your life. It generally stays stable through your life, determined mostly by genetics and hormones. They only usually fluctuate during hormonally influenced years (puberty and menopause). This happens because our bodies’ oil production is controlled by hormones. Any other changes to our hormonal balance (stress levels, changes in diet, pregnancy, medications and contraceptive pills) will reflect in your skin because it too, influences the skin’s oil production. There are 3 universal skin types: 1. Normal/combination skin 2. Dry skin 3. Oily skin Each skin type has its own advantages and disadvantages. Dry skin is less likely to suffer from acne and blackheads, but likely to develop lines and wrinkles at a younger age. Oily skin has more visible pores are more prone to breakouts, but likely to age more slowly. In order to determine your skin type, make sure that you look for the 3 following factors: 1. Pore size and location 2. Skin texture 3. Any surface shine present Below is a simple chart that clarifies each skin type and what each type needs to stay healthy and balanced. NORMAL/ COMBINATION SKIN   Normal distribution of oil. Possibly oily, dehydrated areas and occasional minor breakouts Appearance: luminous, slight shine in t-zone, slight dehydration in cheek area Pores: small – medium Normal/Combination skin needs: Maintain a balanced distribution of oil and moisture by using: ✓ Use pH neutral cleanser ✓ Light weight moisturizer ✓ Hydrating serum for dehydrated areas ✓ Possibly, oil control treatment and deep cleansing masque for minor breakouts Recommended: Erda range OILY SKIN       Shiny oily surface. Possibly congested pores, breakouts/acne Appearance: shiny and muddy Pores: medium – large Oily skin needs: Reduce the amount of surface oil by using: ✓ Foaming antibacterial cleanser ✓ Oil-free moisturiser with oil absorbers ✓ Oil control serum ✓ Deep pore cleansing masque Recommended: Dermassure Clear and Calm range DRY SKIN   Matte surface. Possibly broken capillaries, wrinkles and flakiness Appearance: dull, matte Pores: small – invisible Dry skin needs: ✓ Gentle hydrating non-astringent cleanser ✓ Rich barrier moisturizer ✓ Soothing and nourishing serum and masque Recommended: God’s Nectar range When caring for your skin, the first thing you need to get right is to treat your skin type with the right cleanser and moisturiser. This will also keep the skin’s PH level healthy and restore the skin overall, to a healthy balance. Serums, masks and treatments can then be incorporated into your skincare regime, that are tailored to treat other possible existing skin concerns. Also remember that all skin types at some point, will need weekly exfoliation. Origani Manuka Honey peel is an excellent option for most skin types and conditions when used correctly.
